SUMMARY:Advances in Controlling Magnetizable Piezoelectric Systems: PDE Models, Model Reductions, and Interactive Simulations
DESCRIPTION:Next Thursday November 30, 2023 our Visiting Scientist Prof. Ahmet Ozkan Ozer will talk on “Advances in Controlling Magnetizable Piezoelectric Systems: PDE Models, Model Reductions, and Interactive Simulations” organized at FAU DCN-AvH, Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg.\nAsbtract. Magnetizable piezoelectric materials, pivotal in various engineering applications, exhibit intricate interactions between mechanical and electromagnetic responses. This presentation explores recent progress in controlling partial differential equation (PDE) models governing these systems. The discussed PDE models intricately link longitudinal and transverse vibrations with electromagnetism and thermal effects through Maxwell’s equations.\nThe talk delves into achievements related to the exact observability and exponential stabilizability of PDE models, emphasizing the incorporation of collocated and non-collocated boundary state feedback and observer designs. Mathematical challenges in these endeavors will be highlighted, shedding light on the intricacies involved.\nAdditionally, the discussion shifts towards the analysis of approximations of PDE models using standard Finite-Elements and Finite-Differences. Challenges stemming from the inadequate representation of control-theoretic behaviors uniformly across discretization parameters will be addressed. Recent remedies involving Order-reductions and Finite Volumes will be explored, showcasing their efficacy in providing robust model reductions. The adaptability of proof techniques from PDE models to their reduced forms ensures a consistent decay rate, independent of the discretization parameter.\nTowards the end, the presentation touches upon ongoing and recently published Wolfram’s Demonstration Projects. These interactive visualizations, equipped with realistic material parameters, enable real-time adjustments of controllers. The potential for future developments and directions in this realm will be discussed, offering a comprehensive overview of recent advances and open problems in the control of magnetizable piezoelectric systems.\nWHEN\nThu.
