In this talk, I will focus on the problem of exponential stability for linear PDEs. Two main strategies are classically adopted to tackle this problem: energy estimates and semigroup techniques. Taking the weakly damped wave equation (WDWE) as emblematic example, I will introduce both approaches, and discuss the mutual relation between the two.
