SUMMARY:Trends in Mathematical Sciences II (2026)
DESCRIPTION:From February 5 – 7, 2026, the Instituto de Ciências Matemáticas e de Computação (ICMC) partnership with BAYLAT and the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) is pleased to announce the upcoming “Trends in Mathematical Sciences II” conference. This event will be held in São Carlos, Brazil.\nThe Trends in Mathematical Sciences’ primary objective is to establish a collaborative platform for researchers from Latin America and Europe, fostering networks and strengthening scientific and technological cooperation in mathematical sciences. Emphasizing optimization, control and inverse problems, data science, and applied mathematics, the event aims to explore contemporary challenges and emerging applications within these domains.\n \nThe event has two main goals:\n– To provide a platform for in-depth exploration of mathematical sciences, encouraging interdisciplinary collaboration and highlighting diverse theoretical foundations and transformative applications.\n– To gather leading researchers in applied mathematics, presenting the state of the art and exploring future horizons within the discipline.\nThe multidisciplinary nature of the conference will address various applied topics, including population dynamics, material homogenization, stochastic differential equations, random growth models, computational fluid mechanics, optimization, and the application of artificial intelligence in mathematical modeling. Thus, the range of topics to be addressed is wide and this is evident in the people who are confirmed to participate in the conference. These are just a few glimpses into the diverse facets of mathematical sciences that will be explored at this congress.\n \nAPPLICATIONS\nCall for Applications\nThis call aims to select up to ten (or more, depending of funding) participants affiliated with universities and research institutions in the Free State of Bavaria to attend the conference and present their research.\nSelected candidates will receive financial support from a joint grant provided by BAYLAT and FAPESP, covering partial expenses as outlined below.\n \nEligibility Criteria\nThe following conditions apply to participants eligible for funding:\n1. Early-career researchers must have received their doctoral degree no more than 10 years before the workshop’s start date.\n2. Doctoral students must have their thesis defense scheduled within 12 months of the workshop’s start date. These students must provide documentation from their university or advisor confirming they are in the final stages of thesis completion.\n \nApplication Process\nInterested candidates must submit the following documents in a single PDF file to: sebastian.zamorano@deusto.es by November 14, 2025.\nThe email subject must be: “BAYLAT/FAPESP – Trends in Mathematical Sciences Conference II 2026“.\n \nRequired Documents\n1. Curriculum Vitae: Including a list of publications (max. 4 pages). Only the first four pages will be considered for evaluation.\n2. Abstract: An abstract of the work to be presented at the workshop, aligned with one of the conference’s key areas (e.g., differential equations, optimization, control and inverse problems, data science, and applied mathematics).\n \nFunding Details\nA total fund of €25,000 is available for this initiative, allocated as follows:\n• Airfare Grants: €17,000 is allocated to cover round-trip economy airfare between Germany and Brazil for the top-ranked applicants. The number of grants will depend on the final cost of tickets.\n• Partial Subsidy: €8,000 is allocated as a partial subsidy (daily allowance) to help cover local expenses such as accommodation, meals, and ground transportation during the event.\nThe selection results are scheduled to be announced on October 31, 2025. All applicants will be notified via email.\n \n \nAUDIENCE\nThis event is open to: Public, Students, Postdocs, Professors, Faculty, Alumni\n \nPROGRAM\nThe event revolves around two primary types of activities:\n• Plenary lectures: Two to three per day, featuring distinguished experts who will provide an up-to-date view of their respective fields, pose open questions and outline future lines of research.\n• Thematic sessions: Tailored to smaller groups with common interests, these informal sessions provide a platform for numerous participants to present their work and foster collaborative dynamics.\n\n\nWHEN\nThu. – Sat. February 5 – 7, 2026 • 09:00H\n\n \nWHERE\nOn-site: São Carlos, Brazil\n \n\n \nCheck the first edition of this event: https://mod.fau.eu/trendsinmaths2024 ( https://mod.fau.eu/trendsinmaths2024 )\nSee more at https://sites.google.com/view/trendsinmathemathsciences-bg\n \n \n*Last update: October 20, 2025\n \n \n_\nDon’t miss out our Upcoming events!\n1st.
