Abstract. In this talk, after recalling some basic elements of linear control theory, I will explain how one can use some special functions, the Prolate Spheroidal Wave Functiosn (PSWF), that saturate some uncertainty principle, can be used to give non-controllability results for the half-heat equation on the real line, and for the Grushin equations on the plane.
