Abstract. The standard variational principles in geometric mechanics suggest an extension to the stochastic setting. Stochastic variational principles lead to interesting equations, both stochastic and deterministic. Due to time constraints, I will concentrate only on the stochastic variational principles that lead to deterministic equations. As an application, the classical compressible Navier-Stokes equations are derived. This is joint work with Xin Chen and Ana Bela Cruzeiro.
