Der von der FAU nominierte Mathematiker Prof. Dr. Dr. hc. Enrique Zuazua erhält eine Alexander-von-Humboldt-Professur. Der mit bis zu 5 Millionen Euro dotierte Preis wurde am 9. Mai 2019 in Berlin verliehen. Als Humboldt-Professor an der FAU wird Enrique Zuazua einen Lehrstuhl in Angewandter Mathematik übernehmen. Der Lehrstuhl soll eine Brücke zwischen Theorie und Praxis schlagen und so innovative und interdisziplinäre Forschungsprojekte vorantreiben. Um Forschungsinitiativen auf den Weg zu bringen und zu koordinieren, wird ein neues Zentrum für Datenwissenschaften und Bildgebung als FAU-Plattform mit einem Schwerpunkt Angewandte Mathematik gegründet.
